What you need to know about Jeep
- The Wrangler is easily the most memorable Jeep and has even been dubbed the “halo” of the car brand.
- The Wrangler was built based on plans from the old American Bantam Motor Company (AMC) to assist in fighting WWII. After the war, civilian Jeeps (CJ) were produced by AMC, which was part-owned by Renault.
- Chrysler bought AMC in 1987 with the intent of taking control of Jeep. When the first Chrysler Wrangler was released, it featured parts from older models, including door handles from the 1968 AMC Rebel. This design was used until 2007.
- 1996 never featured a new Wrangler
When the time came to “reinvent” the Wrangler, Chrysler had ambitious goals which lead to the skipping of a 1996 model.
- Right-hand drive models are legal in the US
To assist in easily delivering mail, a right-hand drive Dispatcher Jeep was released. The range was dropped in the 80s, but you can still order certain Jeep models in RHD.
- They are rich in history – and easter eggs
Jeeps have been created with hidden special styling features that link back to the brand’s military history. Some of these hidden gems include a small jeep driving uphill on the passenger side of the windshield and Willys MB silhouette embossed on each of the Rubicon alloy wheels.

One of the Wrangler’s most famous features is the fold-down windshield. This was done to help keep the windshield intact while off-roading and ties in the vehicle’s military history.
