Drive Your Way

Ausvegas – When it comes to racing, most people tend to think of either cars or two-wheeler motorcycles, and there’s less of a focus on four-wheelers, also known as ATVs, or quads.

Quads sit in the middle ground between motorcycle and sports car, providing the stability of the latter while the quick acceleration and manoeuvrability of the former.

They’re also not quite as glamorised as their two-wheeler counterparts, but they can be just as good looking and as fast. Here we will look at some of the fastest quads that are available on the market at the moment.

Arctic Cat Alterra 700 EPS SE

Arctic Cat are highly regarded within the ATV sphere and are known for creating quads that are both extremely high performance and reliable. At the moment, their Thundercat 1000 is considered their fastest ATV of all time, but not far behind is one of their newest models, the Alterra 700.

It’s able to go from 0 to 100 in just under 9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 120 km per hour. This is thanks to its 4-stroke, liquid cooled 695 cc engine, as well as its great power steering and suspension system.

Polaris Sportsman XP 1000

The Sportsman XP 1000 is currently one of the most powerful ATVs available for purchase right now, and that’s thanks to its liquid cooled, twin-cylinder 952 cc motor, producing around 90 horsepower, making it great both for speed and taking on rough terrain.

And thanks to its high ground clearance and remarkably large tyres, the XP 1000 can take its passengers just about anywhere they need to go, regardless of how rocky or steep the land is. It’s also got one of the best quad suspensions at the moment, with a Dual A-Arm system that can be found on both the front and rear. It’s also able to reach top speeds of up to 131 kilometres per hour.

Yamaha Kodiak 700

While relatively slow against some of its main competitors, the Kodiak 700 is nonetheless a powerful machine with a top speed of 108 km/h. What it lacks in speed, however, it makes up for in sheer pull power, being able to tow more than 500 kilograms, and thanks to its fairly low price, it’s a fantastic option for those that want a powerful four-wheeler but don’t have the budget for one of the more expensive options on the market.

It might be a good idea to take the time and look at the specs between the models on offer, often times the significantly cheaper price means the Kodiak 700 is the better choice, meaning that a rider only needs a few successful rounds of bingo Canada to afford one.

CFMOTO Cforce 1000 Overland

Lastly we have the CFMOTO Overland, and it made quite a splash when it’s release was first announced. Built around a 963 cc , 70 horsepower motor, the Overland is the ultimate adventure vehicle, featuring enough extra space for more storage or even to add another passenger.

While it doesn’t boast the smoothest suspensions, it has an excellent transmission system that allows it to reach an excellent top speed of 128 kilometres per hour.
